Happy 4th!

Though our country certainly isn't perfect, we do have much to be thankful for as Americans. This Fourth of July will be a little different for my family since it is the first one since Thomas has become a citizen. His first two loves will always be Holland and New Zealand, but he definitely considers America is home now and is a blessing to our community.

Of course, living where I live, one of the best ways to celebrate July 4th is by being out on the lake, eating good food, and spending time with family. In case that's your style too, here are a couple of fun ideas to celebrate the Fourth of July that look as good as they probably taste.

Firecracker Cakelettes
This recipe looks a bit complicated, but it can be found here.

Star-shaped Pigs in a Blanket
This appetizer looks quick and easy. It came from Reader's Digest and is a cute way to celebrate America's stars and stripes for the Fourth of July. Use a cookie cutter to make puff pastry stars, place them on top of a sausage slice, and serve with a sweet and spicy mustard dipping sauce.
