Mealtime Prayers

In our house, we like to make prayer fun, particularly meal time prayers.  So we've been introducing a lot of "camp" prayers into the mix over the last few months. Then we give Esme the choice each night as to which prayer she wants to pray. She doesn't always join in, but she is catching on to a lot of them. And the other night, she even started to make up one of her own based on Row, Row, Row Your Boat. Reid seems to love these prayers too. He always smiles as we start to sing together. If you're looking for ways to pray with your kids, here are some ideas. There is a lot more where these came from, so you just might see more of these in the future. :)

Flintstones Prayer (God is great sung to the tune of the Flintstones theme song. If you don't know it, you can listen to it here.)

God is great, and God is good
And so we thank God for our food
God is great and God is good
And so we thank God for our food

Amen a-a-a-a-amen. Amen a-a-a-amen.

God is great, and God is good
And so we thank you for our,
We thank you for our,
We thank you for our food.

Rock Around the Clock Prayer (words sung to the tune of Rock Around the Clock)

God is great and God is good
And so we thank God for our food
We're gonna thank God in the morning, noon, and night
We're gonna thank our God 'cause he's out of sight

Amen, amen, amen, amen, amen (cha cha cha, cha cha, cha, cha, cha)
We like to end with a "Yah"

Addams Family Prayer (Be Present at Our Table Lord sung to the Addams family theme song. If you don't know it, listen to it here.)

Start with with the finger snaps and "dadadadun) just like the theme song. Then...

Be present at our table Lord
Be here and everywhere adored.
These mercies bless and grant that we
May feast in paradise with thee.

A-a-a-men (snap, snap) A-a-a-men (snap, snap)
A-a-a-men A-a-a-men A-a-a-men (snap, snap)

Esme's Row Row Row Your Boat Prayer (words sung to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)

Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Thank you God, thank you God
Thanks for everything.

(End with huge smile on your face!)
