Lenten Prayers Week 3

Here's another family-friendly idea for ways to pray together during Lent.  Just about everyone in my neck of the woods is ready for spring, which officially started on Thursday.  Actually, we've been ready for spring for awhile, which is probably why when I found this idea for prayer, I latched onto it right away.

I love this idea because once again it is easy, it does not require a lot of special materials to make happen, and it doesn't require me to run around to three or four different places in search of the materials I need.  Maybe that formula works for you and your family too!  I adapted this idea from a similar one I found on vibrantfaithathome.org.  You can find that full activity here.

To get started, all you need is a small pot, some potting soil, and some seeds.  Grass seed grows really quickly, so that might be a good choice.  Other good options are bean seeds or marigold seeds.

  1. Once you have your materials, gather your family together and make a list of people or situations you want to pray for.
  2. Write the names on a piece of paper and put that in the bottom of your pot.
  3. Add soil to your pot.
  4. Push a few seeds down into the soil (not too many if you're using beans).
  5. Sprinkle the pot with water.
  6. Put the pot in a sunny place and water as needed.
Each time you water your prayer pot, pray again.
