Fueling the Imagination

I've been reading some good books lately-- some of received recent press, but others have been around for quite awhile.  But the thing that all these books have in common is well-developed characters that help me reflect on life.

That's the thing I love best about reading-- you get to "hear" the inner workings in someone's life and see the transformation that comes about as they experience some sort of self-discovery, often in connection with other people and events that they didn't anticipate touching their life.

Though the characters are fictional, I think there is a piece of all of us in them.  After all, they are brought to life by people who live and breathe, wonder and even wrestle, just like us, and as a result, speak to our human nature.

Like taking a friend to a concert featuring your favorite band or making a dish you love when you have someone over for supper so that they can enjoy it too, I love passing on the names of good books to others.  I always hope that they'll find something in them that makes them reflect on life and leaves them feeling like they were glad they read them, like I did.  So if you're looking for a good book, these are a few I recommend:

Welcome to the Great Mysterious and Oh My Stars by Lorna Landvik

Silver Bay by JoJo Moyes

The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald

The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister
